Thanks to your support, Subaru of Bend is proud to present First Story with a $45,000 check that will directly support the construction of a home for one of our Bend community members. During our Share the Love event, we put aside $250 for every Subaru vehicle sold at Subaru of Bend from mid-November to January 3rd, 2023. We presented one of the largest checks for charitable donations in our history and hope to continue supporting this worthy cause that helps families around Bend get ahead and access safe and affordable housing.
First Story is a non-profit organization whose mission is to address the housing crisis in Oregon. They provide a collaborative, multi-pronged approach to help people access affordable home loans, grants, and build or renovate existing homes to make homeownership more accessible and equitable. They also donate to over 1,000 charities in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana communities to provide emergency shelter, food, and advocacy services.
On May 11th at 9:30 a.m., we presented the check to representatives of First Story just a couple of days after the wall-raising event that kicked off the newest First Story home, which is currently under construction for one of our Bend families. Homeownership is an opportunity to build wealth and provide a safe place for our Bend families, and we are proud to be a part of making a real impact in our community.

Since 2008 Subaru of Bend has donated $423,220 through our Share the Love events alone, and we look forward to continuing to support worthy causes in our hometown and beyond.
Last April, Subaru of Bend’s Share The Love Program raised the seed funding for a new Kindred Connections Center (KCC) in Redmond. Renovations have begun on a building that will provide a welcoming environment for the kids and their families, bringing the community together through lasting relationships. We will encourage kids to discover their innate abilities through practical life and work skills, and they find belonging as they become part of the greater community. Subaru of Bend and Thomas Sales and Service are long-time supports of J Bar J programs, assisting with several projects and supporting programs such as Grandma’s House. We are grateful to Subaru of Bend for their $25,000 gift to Kindred Connections through their Share the Love event. It will not only help build a resource center in Redmond, but it is helping the youth from J Bar J Vocational Training Program put their newly developed skills to work and explore career possibilities.”

First Story would like to thank Subaru of Bend for over 20 years of supporting the local community. First Story’s mission of changing lives through changing lives through affordable home ownership is not one that can be accomplished alone. Subaru of Bend has helped us welcome 35 families home: single parents, veterans, second-generation Americans, parents of children with disabilities, families who wouldn’t otherwise be able to Central Oregon home. Welcoming families home is not all. There are so many families in need in our community. With Subaru of Bend’s generous support, we’ve been able to help feed the hungry, provide shelter services, and support advocacy centers for at-risk youth.
