2020 Honda Passport in Bend OR: How Does it Compare to the 2020 Subaru Outback?

Subaru now considers the Outback a crossover SUV, but the 2020 Subaru Outback in Bend OR was originally a station wagon. With exceptional ground clearance, fuel economy, and standard all-wheel drive, adventurous drivers have always flocked to the Outback.

What You Can Expect

The all-new 2020 Outback will ride on Subaru’s more-rigid and crash-worthy “Global Platform” that will now underpin almost all of Subaru’s vehicles. A new 2.5-liter base engine with 182 horsepower is expected on the 2020 model year, which is up from 175. An optional 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with 260 horsepower will likely rocket the Outback from 0-60 in less than seven seconds. Improvements to the Subaru Eyesight system including DriverFocus distraction mitigation, as in the Subaru Forester, are expected. Mimicking the Tesla, a large tablet-style 11.6″ infotainment system will be offered on the new Outback.

Design

Since the Outback was designed on the same frame as the Legacy, we expect to see many of the same design features on the 2020 Subaru Outback that were introduced on the 2020 Subaru Legacy. We’re looking forward to this, because the new Legacy looks classier than ever. If it’s anything like the Legacy, the new Outback will receive the new 11.6-inch infotainment screen similar to that in a Tesla.  

Safety

If there is one thing Subaru is known for, it’s safety. This remains true with the 2020 Outback, shown by even more outstanding crash test and third-party ratings.

Beginning with the 2020 model year, EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is standard on all Outback models. Several new optional features were added to the EyeSight safety suite for this model year as well, including lane centering, DriverFocus, and a front view monitor.

Power

Subaru’s symmetrical AWD is perhaps the feature that contributes most to the Outback’s power. This feature allows drivers to make it safely through mud, snow, dirt, mountains, and almost any driving conditions. We’re also expecting the addition of a turbo engine on the 2020 Outback to replace the 3.6R that was previously available. This is assumed to be the same engine used in the Subaru Ascent and 2020 Legacy XT, however an AWD CVT will still be standard on all models.

Several years after Subaru’s Global Platform was introduced on the Impreza, the Outback finally gets on board. This new platform means stronger steel, better handling, and a quieter cabin.

2020 Honda Passport

The 2020 Passport in Bend OR has come from the technology of the Pilot, meaning that the new, smaller Passport got a larger 3.5-liter, V-6 engine with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. New, large 20-inch wheels with all weather tires were also added to the 2020 model, with a different wheel selection available for each model.
